Happy FRIYAY!
Right now I’m a little obsessed with copper, brass, mercury glass, all metallic tones. I’m not sure how long this trend will last and how long I’ll still want them around, but for now I’m running with it – well, as much as Michael will let me. I knew I wanted a copper accent piece in our bedroom and settled on a side table – we have the space and I always need somewhere to rest my glasses at night. Below are some inspos from, of course, el Pinterest.
Gorgeous, right? Problem: these will set me back at least $200. That’s wayyy too much for something I may be over in a month.
Obviously, DIY. First, I found this simple IKEA Side Table. The best part: IT’S ONLY$19.99.
Assembly took all of 5 minutes, literally the easiest thing I’ve ever assembled from Ikea. I stopped by Home Depot for Rustoleum Universal Metallic Paint & Primer in Aged Copper. I don’t think Rustoleum sells regular Copper, or at least I haven’t been able to find it.
First, lightly coat the entire table. Make sure to paint the edges and trim so no white peaks through. While this coat is drying, crinkle up a plastic bag and lightly pat the table. This will create the irregular veins and weather the table. Of course you could leave it smooth but I wanted a bit more dimension. Apply a second coat and do the same.
Finally, add a sealant. I prefer Minwax Fast-Drying Polyurethane in Clear Satin. It dries in about 2 hours and is ready for regular use after 24 hours.
This would also look so good in the living room or entryway.
