Now that crisp fall weather is in full gear in New York, I’m diving into dark and moody interior fall paint colors. These dramatic tones will elevate any space – bathroom, living room, bedroom, kitchen, and hallway. You can use them on all walls for a dramatic, full immersion experience or consider unconventional uses, such as painting your ceiling, doors, or a half-wall treatment.
Mike and I lean towards darker tones and have a deep green main bathroom, black accents in the living room, and soon a dark vestibule and hallway. One of my upcoming projects is painting the hallway stairs black!
Deep Greens
Greens evoke tranquility, nature, and freshness. There has been a surge of green furniture, kitchen cabinets, and accent walls recently but it has always remained one of my favorite color families.
Dark Blues
Blue will never go out of style and remains one of the most versatile color families. If you opt for a teal, such as Dark Harbor, consider painting baseboards and trimwork the same color so that you build a cohesive and consistent theme. Blue thrives when it is not competing for attention in a space.
Reds and Browns
Brown has been making a comeback and is predicted to be on trend for 2020. I don’t follow trends and believe you should pick what YOU like, not what’s popular. I prefer these browns with red undertones. They are all closer to rust or an aged terracota than a true brown.
Greys and Blacks
I love black paint! Black is a grounding color for your eyes and visually anchors a room. It’s the perfect backdrop for pops of color, bold artwork, and to compliment intricate wallpaper.
Purples and Other
Purple is a very controversial color to use in design but I find it to be very regal and invoke feelings of timelessness and classic design. Image a reading nook, board and batten accent wall, or furniture painted in a deep Plum Suede – gorgeous!
Don’t be afraid of dark and mood paint colors! They can add sophistication and an infusion of personality to any space so GO. FOR. IT!
